Sundresses For Your Summer Wardrobe
Yes, sundresses are definitely something that every woman should have in her wardrobe. That are so easy and comfortable to wear during the hot and humid months.
What Is A Sundress?
It’s funny when I started typing in things to search for sundresses for this post all sorts of dresses started popping up. Many of them I did not consider sundresses. It’s funny how when we say or hear the word sundress a specific image pops into our heads. I immediately think:
- Dress with straps
- Cotton dress
- Bright and colorful
I thought I would look up the exact defition of a sundress. Here’s what the Britannica Dictionary had to say
“a dress that is worn in warm weather and that does not cover the arms, shoulders and neck”
So now that we have a clear picture of what a true sundress is, let’s take a look at some styles of sundresses that look good on petite bodies and why.
Solid Tank Dresses
Solid tank dresses are so easy to wear. If the weather is still a little chilly, then tie a cute linen or cotton top over it or throw on a white denim or blue denim jacket. All you need is a cute pair of white sneakers and you are ready to go. You can check out my post on the Best White Sneakers for Petites.
Why have solid tank dresses in your closet:
- Easy to alter at the shoulders and hem.
- Solid colors help make us look taller and leaner.
- So easy to pack and versatile when traveling.
Brands that always have good solid tank dresses are
Off-the-shoulder dresses and tops are univerally flattering. They help draw the eye up to your face because of the neckline. Some off-the-shoulder dresses will have a flouncy ruffle. Those tend to look better on women with smaller chests.
Just make sure you have a comfortable strapless bra. You can read my post on The Best Strapless Bras for Petites to help you find a good one.
So go ahead and show off your tanned shoulders with one of these.
Fit and Flare
Fit and flare dresses are fantastic on petite women any time of year. Sleeveless, short sleeved, or long sleeved. This style of dress can also be referred to as an A-line dress or a skater dress.
A fit and flare dress is fitted at the waist and then flares out. The amount it flares out can vary. What this flare does is it allows you to show off your curves in a flattering way. Also, if you don’t have much of a waist, it will help you define your wasitline.
Sheath dresses are such a versatile and flattering style of dress. Honestly, they are my favorite style of dress to wear year round. They are classic and can be dresses up or down so easily.
Sheath dresses should fit well. The intention is to skim over your body without being too tight. Yes, they can be very figure flattering if they fit right to show off your curves. They also tend to work well for bustier women.
Some brands that always fun sundresses that are sheath dresses are
All three designers tend to have fun vibrant fabrics that make you want to plan a beach vacation.
UPF clothing has come a long way the past several years. Even though I love to soak up a little natural Vitamin D I also like protection my skin as much as possible. Cabana Life and Coolibar are the two companies that I turn to when I am looking for any type of UPF clothing.
Both companies have things for the entire family, not just dresses. So if you are concerned with sun safety they are two brands that are good to know. Coolibar is my go to brand for Sun Hats. They are very good quality, stylish and adjustable. (I have a very small head.)
Sundresses That Petites Should Avoid
While those look fitting dresses that have no shape to them look oh so comfortable and breezy, they are not a petite woman’s best friend. If you fall in love with the fabric of one, then make sure that you can belt it or have it altered so that it has some shape to it.
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. I hope that this helped you find a great sundress for your next outing or vacation.
