Yes, wearing comfortable sneakers with pretty much everything goes these days. It’s funny what was considered frumpy years ago is now so accepted and on-trend. In this post, I want to discuss wearing them with dresses.

It has taken me a while to get on board with this combination. I always see the look of sneakers and dresses on others (usually younger than me) and think it is so cute. For some reason, it took me a while to pull the trigger on this type of look. Now I am glad that I did. What took me a while was figuring out what comfortable sneakers I needed to wear to make the work look for me. So, my goal is to help you figure out what kind of sneakers you need to have so that you can feel great when you pair them with a favorite dress.

Comfortable sneakers paired with dresses are the topic; however, here are some other posts I have written that you might want to check out.

What Sneakers To Wear With Dresses

There are so many sneaker options out there. Where does one begin to figure out which comfortable sneakers to wear with dresses and other cute outfits? All of the options can be overwhelming. Not only the styles but the colors. Which ones will you actually wear? Sneakers can get pricey so you want to make sure that they work for your wardrobe.

Once I studied what women much younger than me were wearing a lightbulb finally went off. I have three types of sneakers that I now pair with dresses. These can also work with skirts and shorts. Now let’s put the comfortable sneakers to work.

My Favorite Comfortable Sneakers To Wear With Dresses

White Leather Sneakers

White leather sneakers are probably the easiest style of comfortable sneakers to pair with dresses. I guess you could say that they are the “dressier” style of sneakers. You can get white leather sneakers in all white or some brands will have a logo in a color.

I find myself reaching for white leather sneakers year round. Not only do they pair well with dresses for a street style look, but they also work great with some styles of jeans in cooler weather.

Every woman’s foot is unique as to how shoes fit them. I have tried several variations of white leather sneakers and found the ones that agree with my feet the best. I am wearing the Sam Edelman Ethyl sneakers in my normal size 5 in the photo above. They were comfortable for me right out of the box. No blisters, no rubbing. They are under $100 and are always in stock at various retailers.

The other white leather sneakers I like to wear with dresses are the Vejas. If you are not familiar with the brand, they use a lot of organic and recycled materials in their shoes. The company manufactures its products in Brazil and Portugal. They have a few styles that are quite popular the Esplar, the Campo, and the Recife. I have the Esplar and find it to run true to size. Regardless of the style, all have an old-school look to them with the logo in various colors.

Brands I Have Owned And Worn In The Past

Another brand of classic white leather sneakers is Keds. Keds date back to the early 1900s when they came out with the classic canvas rubber-soled sneaker. Now Keds come in many different styles. So if you want to give a nod to American classics try a pair like this that will take you back to childhood.

Canvas Sneakers

The next sneaker on my list is a good canvas sneaker. Hot summer days call for as many breathable materials as possible. Even on the feet.

I love a good espadrille sneaker. The jute on the sneaker adds an extra touch of summer. The pair above caught my eye this year for a couple of reasons. One they are a platform, but not too much of one. The other thing is that they are more off-white with a subtle golden glimmer. They are by Jack Rogers, one of my favorite classic sandal brands. I am wearing my usual size 5.

A few years back I was so glad to see Tretorns make a return. They were popular when I was in college and they always fit my feet well then and now. I like the white on white that they do or the different fun colors of their trademark logo.

You can’t go wrong with a pair of the original Keds white canvas sneakers. Now you can even get them in a platform. The other European brand that I have worn in the past is Superga. They do run on the narrow side.

Sporty Sneakers

Now this is the most recent style of sneaker that I have added to my closet. I am still trying to get used to them. What I will say is that when it comes to any brand of sporty sneakers I prefer them with athleisure style dresses. You see women in athleisure dresses everywhere. I must admit that most are quite cute and comfortable. So go for it. Get a cute tennis dress or workout dress to wear with your sneakers when you are meeting a friend for an alfresco casual lunch or coffee. The dresses are usually made of moisture-wicking material so that is a winning combination for comfort in my opinion.

I am a fan of New Balance shoes. They fit my feet well so for my first pair of “sporty sneakers” I got a pair of the New Balance 327. They are a retro-looking sneaker. I must add that they are quite comfortable. Again, I got them in my normal size 5. Many reviews I read said that they ran large. Since I usually wear a 5.5 in their shoes, I stuck with my normal size and am glad that I did.

All I can say is that these shoes tend to sell out quickly. You can usually find them in some color combinations at New Balance, Nordstrom, and Zappos.

Thanks, Let’s Keep In Touch
