Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall you will find me in a comfortable pair of wide leg pants. When wide leg pants started gaining popularity several years ago I didn’t think I could pull them off as a petite. Once I figured out the best shoes to wear with wide leg pants for my body I haven’t looked back.
I think many women stick with their favorite tried and true pant silhouettes because they know what works. It is easy. Pick out your pants, reach for a favorite pair of shoes, and you are good to go. Wide leg pants can be the same way, I promise. Once you have read this, I think you will find that you can wear wide leg pants with so many different shoe styles.

Fashion should be fun for all of us. Doesn’t matter our size or height. We need to love what we wear. Part of that love is being comfortable. That love also translates into confidence. Simple as that. So when it comes to wearing wide leg pants you need to pair pants and shoes that you are comfortable in. A combination that is you and makes you feel good about the way that you look.
Now, how do you do that? It is trial and error. I confess on SASforShort all of the time that I am a shoe lover. I am probably the owner of way too many shoes. However, there are so many styles out there it’s sometimes hard to choose. So when I bring a new pair of pants into my closet I try them on with different shoe styles. As you can tell I am a fan of wide leg pants. They are comfortable and not constricting. You can wear them casually, for work, or on dressy occasions. There are a couple of things to keep in mind when shopping for wide leg pants when you are petite.
- Make sure they are high waisted. This will make your legs look longer.
- The size of the legs. You want to make sure that they are not too big and overwhelm your frame.
I currently have three favorite wide leg pants that come in petite sizing and regular sizing that I highly recommend. I am wearing each of these pants in this post and wear them regularly.
- The Collette. These cropped wide leg pants are so comfortable and the fabric is amazing.
- The Effortless Pant. This fabric is good for several months out of the year. They come in a couple of different petite lengths. Depends upon the color that you choose.

Best Shoes To Wear With Wide Leg Pants When You Have Short Legs
Many times women with short legs think that they always have to wear heels to achieve that longer, taller silhouette that we want to achieve. That is not always the case. There are plenty of other options out there.
There are several other things that can help with that when choosing the best shoes to wear with wide leg pants. Some of it will depend upon the pants. Is it a full-length pant or a cropped pant? It also helps to either wear a neutral colored shoe or one that is the same color as the pants. That monochrome dressing from head to toe is a short girl’s BFF.
Other shoe features to look for are pointy toes to elongate the foot. You also don’t want the shoe to be too “heavy” or chunky. That can draw attention to the foot versus keeping that long line we strive for. That being said here are the styles of shoes that can look great with wide leg pants.
Wedges
I love a wedge heel with so many things in the warmer months, especially cropped pants. Wedges are great because they provide height and stability for petites. I would recommend keeping the shoe color neutral or light so that you keep the long line illusion going.

Heeled Sandals
I must confess that I wear heels a lot. What I make sure of is that my heeled sandals are comfortable and I only recommend brands on SASforShort that I wear and know to be comfortable. The cognac sandal I am wearing is a workhorse for my wardrobe in the warmer months. They are a great neutral and can be paired with pants, dresses, skirts, and longer shorts. Pointy Toe Pumps
Pointy-toe pumps are a must for short girls. Having a great-fitting classic neutral pair in your closet is an investment that you will not regret. Make sure you have enough room in the toe box which is such an important area for pumps that you will love to wear. I also like to make sure my pumps have extra padding at the ball of my foot and the heel. Remeber, your pumps don’t have to have a high heel, a kitten heel pump will also do the trick and give you a little lift. Here are some great options for pumps.
Sneakers
I must admit that it took me a while to embrace wearing sneakers with trousers. There are a few styles of sneakers that I like with wide leg trousers and casual wide leg pants. The all-white leather sneakers that I have on above are comfortable, go with pants and casual dresses. When pairing sneakers with wide leg pants I have learned that they need to have a little height to them and not be too wide in appearance. Here are some sneakers that I own like to wear with wide leg pants.
Pointy Toe Booties
Booties are great with wide leg pants and jeans in the cooler months. I like them with cropped or full length wide leg pants and wide leg jeans. Pointy Toe Flats
Pointy-toe flats and ballet flats are a great petite-friendly option to wear with wide leg pants because they help elongate the leg line without adding height. I really like to wear them with my slim wide leg jeans. The narrower cut keeps the look balanced while still showing just enough of the shoe.
