Choosing the Sleepwear Fabric for Sweet Dreams
According to the National Institutes of Health, we spend aboutone-thirdd of our lives sleeping or attempting to do so. I like how the word “attempting” is included in there. I know I have had those types of nights and not having something made out of the right sleepwear fabric has contributed to my tossing and turning. Know the feeling? Well, I am going to break down the most popular fabrics in the marketplace and a bit about why each one might help you have sweet dreams versus tossing and turning.
We deserve to wake up fresh as a daisy each and every day.
Fabric Options for Sleepwear
So how do you know which option is for your body? There are a few things that you can look for within each type of fabric. One of the main things to think about is do you prefer a natural fabric or are you good with manmade fabrics. There are pros and cons to all fabrics. You just have to figure out which one you rest better in.
Cotton
Cotton is a natural, breathable fiber. It is soft to the touch and can be great for staying cool in the summer or warm in the winter snuggled under blankets. Since it has a lot of breathability it will offer airflow between your PJs and your body. It will also absorb heat and sweat if you are a hot or sweaty sleeper.
For summer you will want to look for lightweight cotton pajamas. Winter time there is nothing cozier than a great pair of cotton flannel pajamas.
There are three brands that immediately pop into my mind when I think of cotton pajamas. Each of the brands uses a different type of cotton.
Printfresh Pajamas are made of a 100% organic cotton. This female owned business is known for its fun prints and bright colors. The fabric gets softer with every wash and the vibrant colors don’t fade as long as you follow the cleaning instructions.
Lake Pajamas are made from 100% Peruvian Pima cotton. This cotton is known for its softness and strength. It is a smooth and silky cotton.
Eberjey is known for their supersoft pajamas. They like to think of their pajamas as your second skin. They make styles out of sandwashed cotton and pima cotton.

Silk
Silk is a natural fabric that lets your skin breathe when you are wearing it and helps regulate your body temperature. The other nice thing about silk is that it is a hypoallergenic fabric. Yes, if you have sensitive skin or skin allergies this is the fabric for you.
Silk pajamas are not inexpensive. Most are hand wash or machine wash on delicate cycle. I have found with my Fishers Finery silk pajamas that washing and hanging to dry they look great. Again, they are an investment pair of pajamas. However, with proper care they should last you for many years.
Bamboo
Bamboo is another natural fiber that is know for its breathable and moisture wicking abilities. It is a smooth, flat weave that allows air to circulate while you sleep. Many people also love to sleep on bamboo sheets for the same reason. Cozy Earth is a brand that is known not only for its bamboo pajamas, but also their sheets. Their products will keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Cozy Earth pajamas have been on the Oprah’s favorite list many years. They just have a couple of styles of pajamas, but they are loved by many people.
Tips for Finding the Sleepwear Style of Your Dreams
Now that we have looked at the most popular types of sleepwear fabric it’s time to figure out the best style of pajamas so that you can really get a good, restful night of sleep. Here are a few things to consider.
Fit
Just like any other type of clothing fit is important when it comes to sleepwear too. One thing for sure is that you don’t want your sleepwear to be too snug. Something that is too tight can make it harder to find a comfortable position to get to sleep.
As a petite one thing that I always look for when it comes to pajama sets is cropped pants. That takes hemming out of the equation and makes it so that I’m not tripping on my pajamas during the night when I get out of bed to go to the bathroom. Many times the cropped pants sets will have 3/4 length sleeved tops which is also a bonus.
Buy What You Love
Are you a stripes fan? Buy striped PJs. Do you love flowers? Buy pretty flower prints. There are so many sleepwear options out there that can mimic your personality. Just buy something that puts a smile on your face when you pull it out of the drawer. We spend a lot of time in our favorite sleepwear fabric so it may as well be something that we look forward to wearing.
