Silk: The Beauty and Benefits of the Fabric

Silk. Oh how good you feel on the body. Ever have a piece of clothing that you could just never get rid of? For me, this orange silk matka skirt is one of those pieces. It is from my Carlisle Collection trunk show selling days out of our home. That means that it has to be at least 10 years old. Yes, I still love it as much today as the day it came into my closet. Every couple of years, I make sure I find a new top to go with it to freshen it up. This year it was this cute pebble colored top that has just a little bit of sheen to it to pick up on the clear sequins that are in the raffia insert. You just don’t find pieces like this every day.

As I was putting this post together I came across this article about benefits of silk clothing. I knew that designers love to use silk due to the way that it takes dye. Also, I know that pretty much everyone loves the way that the fabric feels on their body. What I didn’t realize was all of the benefits to wearing silk so I thought I would highlight and share a few that I do and love, as well as things I learned.
Silk Can Help with the Anti-Aging Process
Now this was news to me. Apparently the fabric is full of amino acids that help with the anti-aging process. Thus, people like pillowcases, bedding, towels, etc. that are made of silk.
I will say that I have been sleeping on Slip silk pillowcases for a few years now and love them. Guess this backs up some of their marketing claims. I also use their scrunchies on the regular at night to keep my hair off of my face. When I first started using them my hairdresser at the time noticed the difference that my hair was softer and shinier.
Eases the Effects of Eczema and Asthma and Helps Avoid Allergies
Apparently this natural fabric has hypoallergenic properties as well. It doesn’t allow for the build up of dust which bother many of us. The other bonus is that it doesn’t allow for the build up of soil, dirt and other things that can trigger skin allergies. So if you have any type of allergies you might want to give at least a pillowcase a try or even a set of sheets. Hmmm. Wonder how much you would slide around on silk sheets?
Natural Antifungal Element
This is a new one for me. Silk also has some antifungal properties. So, if you have any issues in your private parts you might want to try some silk undies. I will honestly say that I have never worn any silk panties, but never say never.
Silk Can Improve Sleep
Apparently the fabric can help you regulate your body temperature so that you can relax and fall asleep better. Guess that is why my silk sleep mask feels so good when I lay down to take a nap or go to bed before the sun goes down. I also notice that my face and head never get hot when I am sleeping on a silk pillowcase.
One thing that I would like to remind you about silk is that it is a natural fiber. So just like your wool garments you need to take special care of it. You can read more about some of the things I can’t live without in my closet to take care of all of my natural fiber clothing here.
Well, I hope you learned a few new things like I did about silk this week. I certainly did. So I’ve put together some things below that are made of silk that you might like to try. Honestly, if you don’t sleep on a silk pillowcase you really need to try it. It feels so good and now we know why.
Remember you can get more information about the products by clicking on the photo and can purchase them thru the link. I may receive a very tiny commission from your purchase and I thank you in advance for that.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. Remember to have a little SASs in your day and treat yourself to a little luxury for your beauty rest.

I know. I learned so much about silk when I did a little research. Silk pillowcases are the BEST. I even gave my hairdresser one for Christmas a few years ago and she couldn’t get over the difference it made for her too. A good investment. Thanks. I have loved this skirt for many years and will continue to love it for many more.
