Every February we start talking about which beach we would like to spend a few days on. Late April or early May is when we love to book this type of trip. Living in Atlanta, we like an easy flight to somewhere we know will have pretty sunny days with a good breeze. We had not been to Cancun for many years and decided it was time for a visit. The InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort checked all of our boxes for a great getaway.

Our Cancun Getaway to InterContinental Presidente Cancun Reso

Our stay at the hotel was not a long one, but it was a good one. From the moment we walked into the beautiful lobby it was time to exhale and relax. Yes, there were fountains gurgling and the lighting was just right so that it set the mood to decompress from everyday life.

The Hotel

The hotel is located at the northern end of the hotel zone. There are a total of 300 rooms and suites. So the hotel is not too small and not too big.

One of the employees of the hotel told me that its prime location on the Caribbean Sea is due to the fact that it was one of the first hotels built in the Cancun Hotel Zone. The hotel and the grounds are stunning. The grounds from the hotel to the beach are nice and deep which makes it quite private and tranquil.

You can tell that the property has been renovated and updated on a regular basis and has every modern luxury that you look for in a beach resort.

Location

One of the things that we look for when we choose a hotel is ease of getting to and from the airport. Once we got into the shuttle that we had booked we arrived at the hotel in just under 30 minutes.

As I mentioned, the hotel is located at the northern end of the hotel zone which is not as crowded with adjoining big resorts. What we loved was being able to walk on a beach that was not overrun with other tourists. Just to the north of the hotel there were amazing privately owned beach homes. It made it so you felt as if you were on a very private beach that was just relaxing and peaceful.

However, if you want to go into the main area of Cancun where there is lots of shopping and other tourist attractions you are just minutes away from all of that. The hotel can arrange for you to get to that area very easily. We just prefer to stay at the resort.

Rooms

There are several room types and suites available at the hotel. We stayed in one of the King Club Level rooms which had a view of the grounds and the ocean. The room was very spacious and the deck had two chairs and a table so that you could sit and enjoy the view and the breeze.

The bathroom was state of the art. There was a soaking tub, as well as, two showers. Yes, we had a shower within a shower. The first shower was a large walkin shower with an overhead rainhead. You accessed the second shower thru the main shower. It was a very private outdoor shower and also had an overhead rainhead.

The other feature that I wanted to point out is the black out shades. At first, my husband was looking for them and then quickly realized that they were controlled by a button on the wall. Yes, the blackout shaded lowered with the flip of a switch.

Club Level

As I mentioned we stayed in a Club Level room. Our room was located on a floor that required special access via a self opening door. What we really liked about the Club Level access was the morning breakfast buffet and the evening cocktail hour.

The breakfast buffet was perfect for me. I eat a 99% gluten and dairy free diet. Every morning I was able to find just what I needed. From fresh juices and fruit to custom made omelettes, it was just what I needed without having to ask for speical adjustments to a menu.

Each evening there was a cocktail hour in the Club Level lounge area. Cocktails, wine, and canapes were served. The selection of canapes changed each day. It was during this time that we actually interacted with other guests. There were lovely people from all over that were in the lounge area and we enjoyed lively conversations with them.

Amenities

First of all, the hotel was staffed with friendly, helpful people wherever you turned. They were always happy to help you with whatever you needed. From the concierge desk at check-in, the restaurants, the towel checkout for the beach. There was also an onsite travel agency that could help you with any local excursions.

Beach/Pools

The resort has two large pools with more than adequate seating and umbrellas. One of the pools also has private cabanas that you can reserve.

The white sand beaches are oh so soft on your feet. The beach is quite large and has a combination of chairs, palapas with chairs and a table available on a first come basis, and palapas with beds that you can rent for a daily fee.

There are also kayaks and a catamaran on the beach that guests can use. There were also bicycles and helmuts that were available to check out thru the concierge or front desk staff.

Spa/Gym

There is a full day spa at the resort where you can book from a selection of treatments or get a massage. The gym had plenty of cardio equipment, some weight equipment, dumbbells, and room for stretching.

Would We Return to the InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort?

Absolutely. From the moment we checked into the hotel until our checkout the service was top notch. Every employee that we encountered wanted to ensure that we were having a wonderful stay. That says something special about the management of the hotel and the staff.

Thanks

    1. It was so pretty and quiet for a Cancun resort. The water is so pretty and calm at the northern end of the hotel area. We couldn’t believe that this was the 3rd hotel/resort ever built in Cancun. The property is so well maintained and updated.
