Petite Woman’s Guide To The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Why put together a petite woman’s guide to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale? Petite women love to shop just as much as non-petite women. Right? Sadly, there are not many petite-sized options in this much anticipated sale of the season. So if we petites want to take advantage of shopping very early for a few early fall pieces, then we must know how to shop for petite friendly pieces.

Before we dive into my petite-friendly picks from this year’s sale there are a few other posts I have written about petite fashion you might want to check out.

Petite Woman’s Guide To The 2024 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Yes, this has been a much-anticipated sale for shoppers for years. It’s the first big peek at what fall fashion is going to look like for all of us. It seems as if many of the same things are on sale each and every year. I have found that I have a bit of a rhythm to my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale shopping.

You won’t find Nordstrom brand clothing in my sale selections except for a few Zella pieces. I don’t find them to be a good fit for petites. I like to be honest and upfront about that.

What I Like to Buy from the Sale

Even though I have worked in retail and direct sales over the years it is still difficult for me to wrap my head around buying fall and winter items in July. However, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale is a great time to pick up a few things to refresh your early fall wardrobe. Trust me, on that first cool early fall day you will be glad that you did. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the first fall day is Sunday, September 22nd. It will be here before we know it.

So what do I look for at this sale?

  • Jeans
  • Joggers/Leggings/Workout Clothing
  • Flats/Pumps/Boots
  • Accessories
  • Coats

So let’s see what I found in this year’s preview that I think would be good to have at the first sign of a crisp fall day as a petite woman. You never know what they are going to have from year to year. I have also learned that I check back at the end of the sale to see if my sizes have come back into stock. So often some pieces sell out very quickly and either they miraculously restock or you get other’s returns.

When I scoured the preview this year I focused on pieces in the categories I listed above. Some had things, and others didn’t. So the things you see are things that I would buy for myself as a woman who is 5′ 1/2″ tall and usually a size XS or 0-2.

Joe’s Jeans came through this year with one pair of jeans for the sale. The Provacatuer is a great midrise bootleg jean. I wear this style in the fall and winter with boots and with pumps. I find them to fit true to size. You can see me in them here.

Joggers/Leggings/Workout Clothes/sneakers

Every year they always include some good 7/8 length leggings in the sale and my Petite Woman’s Guide always includes them. I swear by buying 7/8 leggings for my full-length leggings. It’s always nice to add a fresh pair each fall. This purple pair of leggings would be great paired with white, black, or grey tops.

This year I like the idea of this midi skirt for a fall athleisure look with New Balance 327 , Adidas Sambas, or, Gazelle sneakers. You could pair it with this coordinating sweatshirt or be creative.

Well, I have always said that I am a shoe girl through and through. I found a few good ones this year. Let’s start with transitional shoes. They come in handy when you are so tired of wearing sandals and worrying about a perfect pedicure. Welcome the flat and the low-heeled slingback pumps back into the wardrobe. This two-tone pointy toe flat caught my eye. This low-heeled slingback has a loafer vibe and would be great with jeans or slacks and I like the texture on this cap-toe slingback. I was also glad to see this chunkier loafer back this fall. You can see me in it here. It is so comfortable and not too chunky for smaller frames.

Little fact about SASforShort. One of the most popular posts I have written to date is about boots. Finding boots to fit and look good when you are petite can be quite a challenge. Last year I discovered a Naturalizer tall boot that worked great for short legs. So when I saw this boot and this boot I knew I had to include them.

Waterproof boots are great to have when you travel in the winter months. I never leave home without a pair. I have a pair similar to these that have served me well and continue to do so. If you are a pointy toe bootie kind of gal there are a few nice ones as well.

I scoured through all of the accessories and there were two categories that jumped out at me. Earrings and Sunglasses. Odd combination, but I have written about both of them for petites and found some good things that work.

I like an elongated earring for day or evening. All three of these pairs are shaped the same but have different details. I own earrings from the brands and like them.

We wear sunglasses year-round so it is nice to pick up a new pair when you find something that works and is on sale. These designer sunglasses are on the smaller side and should work for smaller faces nicely.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a few styles of Barbour jackets included this season. They are such a fall classic. In the past, the jackets have run petite friendly. Most likely you will need to have the sleeves hemmed or tacked back. I tried to look at cuff details.

This wool coat is so pretty. The lapels are not overwhelming and it has nice waist details for a petite. The sleeves could be hemmed easily. This packable raincoat is another good thing to have in the closet for fall. Again, you could easily hem the sleeves.

Hope you found some things in my petite woman’s guide to this year’s sale so you can give your fall closet a little refresh. It’s always nice to have something new to look forward to wearing on that first cool morning. Please let me know if there is something that you always like to buy for yourself during this iconic sale.

You can also find me on Instagram and Pinterest. I would love for you to follow me there. I also have a newsletter that I send out every Wednesday and Sunday morning. In them, I share things that I don’t share on other platforms. I hope you will sign up by clicking here.
