Sofwave Treatment For Better Upper Arms

What woman doesn’t want to wear sleeveless tops with confidence? For some reason, upper arms are always an issue for women. When I was younger and worked in retail sales the number one issue for women was covering their upper arms. It boggled my mind. Fast forward several years and I now get it.

Even though I work out regularly, eat a clean diet, and stay hydrated my upper arms have always been the toughest part of my body to train. When I had the opportunity to partner with Sofwave and Dr. Theresa Jarmuz of Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery for a Sofwave treatment on my upper arms the appointment date couldn’t come soon enough.

Before I walk you through all the details of my treatment here are a few other posts you might want to check out.

What Is Sofwave? Why Use It For Upper Arms?

Sofwave is a device that uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beach Technology (SUPERBTM) to revitalize the skin in an innovative way to stimulate the skin to produce new collagen. This technology generates heat 1.5mm below the surface of the skin to the area of our dermal layer where collagen is produced. It does it in such a way that the surface of the skin is not affected. This procedure is FDA-cleared to lift the eyebrow, submental(under your chin and jawline), and neck, and to treat fine lines and wrinkles. In 2024 they received the clearance for the upper arm area.

Sofwave Treatment Benefits

What To Expect During Your Treatment Appointment

A visit was scheduled with Dr. Theresa Jarmuz of Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery for my treatment appointment. I had been to her practice for other treatments and knew I was in experienced hands. She is known in Atlanta for being a go-to doctor for antiaging procedures, as well as, for surgical treatments.

How To Prepare For the Sofwave For Upper Arms Treatment

There isn’t any preparation for your treatment appointment. I wore a tank top to my appointment and that was it for being prepared. From my past experiences, I knew that we would be taking before photos and I could wear the top during my Sofwave treatment.

They came in and put numbing cream on my upper arms from my elbows to my shoulders. Then we waited for about 30 minutes before we started.

What The Treatment Appointment Is Like

Once my upper arms were nice and numb it was time to put the Sofwave machine into action. Before starting the procedure they covered my arms with ultrasound gel. The practitioner, Joahanna Strong MSN, NP-BC, showed me the handpiece for the device that they would be putting against my skin and explained what it would feel like. Next, she gave me a ball I could hold in one hand as a distraction as the wand did its work.

Now it was time to begin. You can see a large screen in the photo of the machine above. That is where they can customize the energy to your skin type and goals.

My Description Of The Treatment

We started with the outside of my arms. I do not have loose skin there, but we had to do the entire upper arm area. She did small sections at a time and did them in a pattern. We did three passes. She would give me a few minute breather between each pass.

Then we went to the underside of my arm where the skin is thinner and more lax. I am not going to sugarcoat it. That is where I felt the heat and sting of the treatment. We had to dial the energy level back a little. I noticed that as we got closer to the shoulder the more heat I would feel. The sting would go away after a couple of seconds.

We did both arms with the same patterns and the same amount of rounds. It took about an hour or so for the treatment.

Sofwave Treatment Before Photos of My Upper Arms

Now what everyone is curious about? What did I look like before the treatment? I wanted to show you the before photos so that you can see my main concern was on the underneath side of my arms or the tricep area. You know that skin that moves when you wave. I will be updating this post with three-month post-procedure photos. We will do the same poses so we can compare everything side by side.

Post Treatment Care

I knew from my Sofwave facial treatment that there would be no downtime. My arms may have been a little pink, but the color was back to normal by bedtime. There were zero side effects from the treatment.

Since the treatment, I have been diligent about extra moisturizers on my upper arms. Yes, I may even be a little OCD about it. Every morning and night I use moisturizing products that contain ingredients that help with firming. You also want to make sure that they contain collagen-boosting ingredients like retinol, hyaluronic acid, and Vitamin C.

Even though I have always worked out I consulted with a trainer to develop workouts that target my upper arms. So I am doing full-body workouts three days a week with a focus on my upper body. That is how I felt I could maximize this Sofwave treatment. Being active helps boost collagen and elastin production so I want to boost it as much as possible while the treatment is actively working.

My Final Thoughts On The Sofwave Treatment for Upper Arms

I knew it would take at least a month to see any changes. I can tell that my areas of concern are seeing some lift. There isn’t as much jiggle when I wave these days. It will be interesting to compare photos at the 12-week point.

Before And After Photos – 3 Months Post Procedure

Before and after photos always tell the best story. I have continued to work out with a focus on my arms and shoulders since the procedure. I was also diligent about keeping the skin very moisturized. I believe the combination of the Sofwave treatment and my healthy habits have given me arms that I like. That is something that I have wanted to say for many years and now I can confidently say that.

The before photo is on the left. You can see from this angle that the arms have slimmed and the texture of the skin has improved.

This is the same angle just the opposite arm and you can see the same thing here.

This photo shows something that I hadn’t thought about, but it is apparent that there is a lift to the skin above my elbows. During the procedure the wand stopped a few inches above the elbow so that helped to bring the skin up.

  1. Great post! I had never heard of softwave treatments before. I’ll have to look into it in my city. I’m in Halifax, NS, and haven’t seen it offered at my spa. I’m most interested in a little brow lift!

    1. Hi Lisa, Glad you found the post helpful. The fact that there is no downtime and you see results is a win win in my book. Also check out the post I did about the upper arm treatment with Sofwave.

    2. Lisa, I now see you found me via the upper arm treatment. I am still happy with my face treatments as well. They do work.
