Yes, I have been a Zappos shopper for so many years that I can’t remember when I started shopping with them. I am sure that it was in the early 2000s since they were founded in 1999. I am a size 5-wearing shoe-loving woman. Instant gratification and shoe shopping do not go hand in hand for me. I can’t even remember the last time I went into a store and walked out with a new pair of shoes.
Years ago, the thought of ordering shoes in my size, having so many options to choose from, and getting them in two days was mind-boggling. Now it is something that I just take for granted from this online retailer.

What Is Zappos?
Zappos is an online retailer that carries so much more than just shoes. Yes, when it started in 1999 it was an online shoe shopping destination. Now you can find clothes, accessories, and more on their site.
Since 1999 they have grown into a brand that everyone recognizes. Yes, they are a one-stop shop for so many of your needs. It’s not just women’s shoes, clothing and accessories. You can shop for the entire family on their website. Their search options make it easy to drill down and find exactly what you are looking for.
My Zappos Shoe Shopping Experiences
I will admit that I am a shoe lover. A US Woman size 5 shoe lover. That size is not easy to find. However, when I drill down by shoe type, size, color, heel height, heel type, and shoe type I get so many options. That is why I go back so often.
If I am looking for sandals they carry some of my favorite brands like Jack Rogers and Bernardo. If I am looking for fun shoes (usually heels), they take care of that with Kate Spade and SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker.
I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea. You can shop for almost every brand and type of shoe on the Zappos site.
My Review Based On My Shopping History
I think that you can tell I am a repeat customer. You always wonder if a retailer is going to change when they are acquired by another larger company. The only thing that I can tell has changed is I don’t get the infamous Zappos box. I know that warehousing and shipping changes take place to make companies run more efficiently, but I will say that I do miss seeing their box.
Overall – 5 stars
Overall, I give them 5 stars. I have never had an issue with receiving an order that I can recall. Order confirmations come to my email almost immediately. I get timely shipping updates. The bonus is that I usually receive my shoes in two business days. Now I do live in a major metropolitan city so that may help. I am also an Amazon Prime member. It is probably the closest thing that I can get to instant gratification and shoe shopping.
Selection (Sizing) – 4.5 stars
The fact that they are size-inclusive is so refreshing. Not only do they carry small sizes like I wear, but they also go to the other end of the spectrum. I have found that if a brand offers the sizes, they stock the sizes. Not all retailers do that.
The only issue that I run into from time to time is that there are not many pairs in inventory in my size. So, if I want a pair of shoes I do have to buy them at the beginning of a season or when the brand releases them.
Price – 5 Stars
I find their prices to be the same or better than other online retailers. What’s even better is that they have a price-matching guarantee. That is helpful if you find something on sale at another retailer.
Customer Service – 5 Stars
Zappos Customer Service has not changed since I started ordering from them. When the company was founded one of their core values was to be a customer-obsessed company. They wanted to WOW their customers. One of the fun, quirky things that I love about customer service to this day is that you can call the Zappos phone number 1-800-927-7671 and hear the “joke of the day”. Now how many companies provide that extra service to make you smile?
Return Policy – 5 Stars
Zappos makes returns so easy. They have always been free and you have up to 365 days. That timeframe is pretty much unheard of. You can either print a label and drop it off at your local UPS store, have it picked up, or now you can drop it off at an Amazon counter. I am a Whole Foods shopper so I usually take my returns to the counter so that I save space on trucks. All I have to do is take my code that is sent to me via email and the shoe box. Return confirmation is in my email usually before I leave the store.
Is Zappos Amazon?
Yes, Amazon acquired Zappos in July 2009. They still have their own website and customer service. You may receive your Zappos order in an Amazon bag or box. Customer service told me that the infamous Zappos box still exists, but I have not seen one for a long time.
