How To Make Your Reading Glasses Fashionable

I remember the day when I realized that I had to get some reading glasses. My first thought was….I’m going to look like an old lady. Seeing up close had never been an issue for me. I started wearing glasses at the age of 10 or 12 for distance. When I turned 16 my parents let me get contacts. Boy was I excited. Soft contacts were are the rage back then too. I really thought that I was something. No more glasses except for studying late at night.

The next life changing eye event was getting my eyes lasered when I was in my early 40s. Oh my gosh, talk about life changing. It was the first time I could read the alarm clock without having to put my glasses on. That eye doctor told me that I wouldn’t need readers for a while and he was right. Then the day arrived in my late 40s.

At first, I didn’t depend upon them very much. Just when I was tired or reading very small print. Now there are reading glasses everywhere. Can you relate? The question of the day is how do we wear them so that they are fashionable and don’t age us.

How to Look Elegant in Reading Glasses

First things first. You don’t have to pay a lot of money for reading glasses to look pretty and elegant in them. You just need to have some that fit the shape of your face well and in a color that looks good on you. If you don’t know your face shape, then this article will help you with that. Most online glasses shops will categorize glasses by the shape of your face so that will take a lot of the guesswork out for you.

Little Tricks That Help When Wearing Them

  • Keep your brows well groomed and shaped. Also use brow powder to fill in any gaps. This is my favorite brow powder and gel. The powder comes in so many color options and the gel is clear.
  • Use concealer under your eyes. Glasses can sometimes enhance our dark circles and fine lines. Another option to keep nearby is this moisturizing stick. It really helps brighten and moisturize. I keep one in my purse and one in my desk.
  • Use a great lip color. You can’t let the glasses get all of the attention. If you know me, you know I love a bold lip and wrote about how to rock a bold lip in midlife.

Now that we are feeling good about how we look in our readers let’s look at the next issues. Where do we put them?

Where to Put Your Glasses When You Aren’t Wearing Them

If you are like me, then you are always looking for your glasses. Seems as if I am always putting them down somewhere and then when I need them I’m always fumbling around to find them. We used to think that only old ladies wore glasses chains. Well, a few years ago that changed and they became just another fashion accessory. I do have to admit that the chains look better than the other options of hanging them from your shirt or putting them on your head. Here are a few great ones that I think are sassy and won’t make you look or feel old when you have them around your neck. My suggestion is to find one that you like that blends with your glasses like mine do in the photo above if you don’t want to draw attention to them.

Great Brands for Fashionable Reading Glasses

Now we can all go to the drugstore, Target or even the grocery store to find some readers. Will they always be the most fashionable? Probably not. Technology has changed the way that we can buy so many things INCLUDING glasses. Have you ever thought about doing virtual try-ons? They are fun and you can really tell what the glasses are going to look like on you in the privacy of your home. If you haven’t tried it, then please take the time to look on one of the following websites and do it. Here are some great brands that not only have good quality glasses, but they have fun, fashionable glasses. You can get the frame you want and the strength you need all at your fingertips. They also offer bluelight coatings. (I use mine with electronics ALL of the time so bluelight is a must for me.)

THANKS

As always, thanks so much for taking the time out of your day to stop by my little corner of the internet. Just because we need different things as we age doesn’t mean that we have to let them age us. There are many things that we can do to maintain a youthful appearance and be age appropriate. Hope this helped you with seeing the youthful side of being able to see the fine print.

Remember to always have a little SASs in your day!!

Hugs,

The text that is underlined and shows up in a different color is usually a link to another blog post that I have written, another site, or a product.  The links to a product are affiliate links.  What that means is that if you click on a link to a product and make a purchase, Sassy for Short (a.k.a Beth) gets a small commission at no extra cost to you.  The same goes if you click on any of the pictures to get more information about a product. Also, some items may be gifted to me, but opinions about the products are always my own. I really appreciate you supporting the brands that make it possible for me to keep this blog going!

It’s funny because I have had glasses for distance since I was young too, and now I have progressives. But many times I can still take off my glasses for reading up close. Especially with the phone.

    1. I enjoyed 20/20 vision for 8 years after having my eyes lasered. It was amazing. Can’t wait for cataract surgery one day and then I’ll have the up close fixed.
