How to Wear Bright Lipstick In Midlife With Sass
Bright lipstick can just bring such a smile to our faces and add a little pep to our step. So many times we have a favorite shade that we used to wear years ago that brings back memories of fun times and special events in our lives. Just because are lips aren’t as full as they used to be or those pesky vertical lines have shown up doesn’t mean that we can’t wear the shades that spark joy for us.
As we age, we actually need to have a little more color. We just need to make sure we do a few extra things so that bright colors look great on us. It’s always a good thing when we have a little sass and extra confidence when we walk into any room.
So what do we need to do to make sure we have that sass?
Step 1 for Wearing a Bright Lipstick with Confidence – Exfoliate & Moisturize
This step is actually for any color of lipstick, but even more important if you are a fan of bright lips. There are several ways you can exfoliate your lips. You can actually make some simple scrubs at home with ingredients from your kitchen. This article will give you some ideas. If you are not a DIY person there are several great ones in the marketplace. Here are a few products that I have used and always keep in my bathroom.
Step 2 is to Wear a Lip Liner with Your Bright Lipstick
Two things that we never want to look in the mirror and see when we wear bright lipstick is bleeding or smudging. That is an easy. We just need to add the right lip liners or primers to our makeup drawer. You don’t have to have a lip liner to match every shade of lipstick. Choose a shade that is close to your natural lip color to wear during the day with ALL of your lipsticks or you can find a good nude pencil. Here are a few that you are going to want to click on to see what is best for your lips every day. I’ve done the research and here are some great ones at all different price point.
Now that you have a great nude and/or primer for every day one last thing about this step. For days you want/need to feel extra special or for an event make sure you pull out the matchy matchy lip pencil. It will put even more sass in your walk.
Step 3 is to Wear the Best Formula for Your Lips
Even though we are doing are very best to age gracefully and maybe even backwards we still need to make sure that we have the right formula of lipstick on for mature lips. Even thought we are keeping our lips exfoliated and hydrated ingredients are important. Look for a formula that has hydrating ingredients in it. The best types of finishes with those extra special ingredients we are looking for are a soft matte, velvet, or cream. Another trick that many makeup artists will tell you is to use a good lip brush versus putting it on right out of the tube. Many times I will do that before I leave home, but just take the lipstick with me for touchups later. Here’s a couple of good retractable ones if you want one for on the go.
Now that we have got our lips under control another area that we always need to pamper is our hands. They are one of the first places that can show our age to others. You can read how I keep my hands hydrated and happy here.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this post. I really appreciate it. Now go out and buy yourself a couple of new bright lipsticks for the spring. It will be here before you know it.
Just a reminder…….The text that is underlined and shows up in a different color is usually a link to another blog post that I have written, another site, or a product. The links to a product are affiliate links. What that means is that if you click on a link to a product and make a purchase, Sassy for Short (a.k.a Beth) gets a small commission at no extra cost to you. The same goes if you click on any of the pictures to get more information about a product. I really appreciate you supporting the brands that make it possible for me to keep this blog going!
These are all great suggestions for wearing Red lipstick. There’s just something about the way wearing Red makes us feel. Definitely Sassy!
Exactly. Something about a bright lipstick that just puts a little more pep in your step.
It’s amazing how a pop of color with the lips just brightens up our face so much. I am addicted to the all day lipsticks just because I’m too lazy to reapply, haha.
I know. I think I wear bright lipstick more now than ever before. I’ve never tried any of the all day lipsticks. Will have to add that to list.
Gotta have a good bright lip for all of those Zoom calls you are on.
