How to Have A Great Manicure and Pedicure At Home

Manicure and Pedicure essentials are always a good thing to have around.  You just never know when those tips and toes are going to need to look good and you don’t have time to get to the nail salon.  For me, it is something that I have to plan because it is at least a 2 hour outing.  Between the 15 minute drive to the salon I prefer (it is very clean), the treatment, and then the drive home takes up a good chunk of an afternoon even with an appointment.

Minimum Manicure and Pedicure Essentials for At Home Service

So first let’s talk about the minimum essentials that you need.

  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Cotton Balls
  • Nail Clipper
  • Nail File
  • Cuticle Pusher
  • Cuticle oil
  • Nail Polish (color)
  • Nail Polish (base coat and top coat)

As long as you have these few things around the house you will never have to worry about leaving home with a chipped or broken nail.  What I find helpful is to keep all of these things in one place so that I can find everything quickly.  I usually keep all of these items in a small clear container  and nail polish on something like this that I keep on a shelf in the bathroom.

Now if you want to make sure that you really treat your tips and toes at home there are a few more things that I suggest you add to your little container of essentials

Luxury Manicure and Pedicure Essentials for At Home Service

  • Exfoliating Scrub
  • Pumice stone/sponge
  • Callus Remover
  • Nail Polish Holder
  • Footrest (to make it easier to reach your toes)
  • Toe Separator
  • Foot Spa Bath Massager
  • Hand and Foot Masks (I use these regularly apart from mani/pedis)  You can read all about how I keep my hands hydrated and happy here.

So now that we have everything that we need at home for those emergency or in between visits to the nail salon what do we do.

Easy Steps for an At Home Quick Nail Refresh

  1. Get rid of all of your polish.  Non-acetone or nourishing polish removers are the best for our more mature nails and skin around them.
  2. Trim and shape your nails.
  3. Apply a little cuticle oil and use your cuticle pusher
  4. Get rid of the dry, dead skin on your feet if you’re doing a pedicure after you have soaked them in warm water for a while.
  5. Moisturize your hands and feet.
  6. Polish your nails.

Why I Always Keep Nail Polish at Home

I have to be honest.  I never leave home with chipped nail polish especially on my toes during sandal season.  Anyone else relate or is it just a southern thing?  So I can easily do a little touch up if I have to.  Here’s a link as to how to fix those smudges or chips that we so easily get for some reason.  Here are two items (here and here) that will make this type of mishap easier to fix.

Just being honest here, I like to have a variety of colors to choose from.  Seems like I lean towards shades of red, bright pinks, and bright corals for my toes and neutrals for my hands.  I always take my polish with me to the nail salon.  Maybe I’m a bit of a germophobe, but one can never be too careful about picking up a nail fungus.  Just think about it.  They sterilize their tools and foot spas, but they can’t really sterilize the nail polish brushes.

So below are all of the items that I have talked about rounded up for you to click on if you would like to get more information about any of them or to order them.

THANK YOU

As always, thanks so much for taking the time to read my posts.  It means the world to me.  Please drop me a note below if you really like one of the products that I suggest or if you know of something else that I need to add to my essentials list.

Just a reminder……

The text that is underlined and shows up in a different color is usually a link to another blog post that I have written, another site, or a product.  The links to a product are affiliate links.  What that means is that if you click on a link to a product and make a purchase, Sassy for Short (a.k.a Beth) gets a small commission at no extra cost to you.  The same goes if you click on any of the pictures to get more information about a product.  I really appreciate you supporting the brands that make it possible for me to keep this blog going!

I like taking my own polish just for the fact that I can touch up with the same color when the chipping happens. Plus I have been trying to use the non-toxic polishes too.

    1. Great minds think alike. I take my own polish for the same reason. Nothing worse than a chipped nail. I’m trying to change over to the non toxic little by little as well. Both are in my collection of polishes.

  2. What a great post, Beth! I love the idea of the footrest- that will definitely make the at-home touch ups easier to manage..

    1. Yes, I thought that was a great thing for people who don’t have great flexibility.
