Fall Wardrobe Classics That You Will Wear Again And Again

I love it when I go into my closet and can just pull something together quickly. Change of seasons can be a tricky time of year for many of us. Once I started concentrating on buying fall wardrobe classics all of a sudden it became easier for me to transition from summer to fall and for fall.

Fall Wardrobe Essentials

Keep in mind your lifestyle and personal preferences for dressing when you read my list of fall wardrobe classics. You may live in a completely different climate than me. Just for the record, I live in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. That means that true fall weather doesn’t arrive until well into October many years. Sometimes we just have to pretend and pull out our fall clothes a little early.

Building a wardrobe of classics does not happen in one season or year. It can take a few years so my suggestion is to look at the list below and then analyze your closet. She what is missing and then start shopping to fill in some of the holes that you may have.

1. Layering Tee

Layering tees can be short-sleeved or long-sleeved. Personally, I would recommend a good white and black in both options. If you can find a good cream-colored tee, then that is always handy too.

Want something more than just a basic cotton tee? I love this cropped silk blend t-shirt that I am wearing in the photo above. It works great as a stand-alone or under a jacket.

If you live in a climate where it gets cold early you might want to add in a turtleneck or two. For that, I love these tissue-weight turtlenecks. They help keep your neck warm and do not add bulk.

2. Versatile Blazer

A navy, black, or camel blazer over a tee with jeans just makes a fall casual outfit complete. The beauty of a versatile blazer as a fall wardrobe classic is that you can dress it up or down. You can also wear the same blazer with a skirt, dress or trousers. It can be worn with heels, loafers or boots. I think you get the idea of why it is so important to have one that fits your body and makes you feel great when you wear it.

3. White shirt/Button-down

A white shirt and jeans are such an easy combination when we are transitioning from summer to fall. It is easy, classic, and with a couple of accessories looks totally pulled together. You can get them fitted or a looser boyfriend cut is nice with skinnier jeans. I always like to roll the sleeves up on my boyfriend cut button-downs for a laid-back look.

This non iron blouse is a fantastic addition to anyone’s closet. Each season it is always offered in white and black, but will also be available in other colors or patterns.

4. Trousers/skirts

No matter if you work in a professional setting, from home, or don’t work it’s good to have something to wear that is not denim in your wardrobe. I always find it nice to have a great-fitting pair of black trousers in my closet. A pair that I can dress up or down. It’s also nice just to have a pair of twill pants to pull out from time to time in a neutral color. Khaki or green are always good neutral colors for fall. The other fabric that I lean towards any chance I get is a ponte knit pant. They are so comfortable.

A casual skirt can be nice to wear in the fall too. It can be a shorter skirt that you wear with tights once it gets cold out or a slip skirt is a great longer version that is very versatile for the wardrobe. Corduroy is having quite the moment this fall and that is a fun option for the season.

5. Jeans

Jeans are an easy thing to reach for in the closet for most of us. This year you are seeing various leg styles and lengths. From skinny jeans, to straight legs, to a relaxed boyfriend cut, to flares, and wide legs. There are lots of options out there. So wear the style that you look and feel great in.

Still like your skinny-leg jeans on your body shape, then wear them with confidence. Just make sure they have a high waist to make your legs look longer. Want to try something different, order a pair of wide-leg jeans and play around with them.

For fall I love to wear a pair of ecru (cream) colored jeans. Other washes that are good to have in your closet for this season are dark wash and black. Faded black jeans are also at the forefront this season. Not quite a true black and darker than grey. Grey jeans are also a great option if you like to wear bright-colored tops and sweaters.

My two main tips for buying jeans that are not petite are to look for cropped length and mid-rise. However, in the last few years, more brands and retailers have been carrying petite jeans which is so nice. My go-to sites for petite jeans are:

6. cashmere wrap

So many times the weather is cool, but not cool enough for a coat. That is when I turn to my cashmere wraps. They also work great if you have on a blazer to add another layer for a bit of drama. Again, add one of these every so often so that you have a couple of neutral colors to choose from. Black, camel, chocolate brown, ivory, grey, and charcoal are great color options.

One brand that always has the best color options is White + Warren. I have had one of their wraps for over 5 years now and it is still as beautiful as the day I got it. They are also how I learned to use this detergent on my cashmere at home.

Shoe Styles You Will Wear On Repeat Every Fall

Shoes, shoes, and more shoes. I am a shoe girl through and through. After all, they can make or break an outfit. When fall arrives I find myself reaching for three styles most often. I tend to stick with classic styles that I can wear season after season.

I linked a coupe of post I have written about shoes and boots for petites at the beginning of this post you may want to check out for more options.

7. Classic Flats

A classic pointy-toe flat is one of my favorite shoes for the transition season. Another great classic flat to have in your closet is a ballerina flat. I love this pointy-toe version.

Another brand that is a go-to for comfortable flats is Ally Shoes. Their insoles are so cushioned and have arch support. They are also available in four widths. They only have one design of flats, but they have over 10 color combinations. You can use Beth10 for 10% off your order at checkout.

Loafer (similar)

8. loafers

Not only are loafers comfortable, but they are always in style. You can get them in leather or suede in your favorite hues and wear them for years. As a petite woman who wears a size 5 shoe, I make sure that the toe is more pointed to help elongate my feet.

The penny loafer has always been a preppy classic. I think this season the perfect brown suede penny loafer does exist. Adding a fun pattern like this python print adds interest to fall wardrobe classics outfits. Another interesting type of loafer to add is one with a little metal hardware as detail.

9. Heeled Boots

Last, but not least you should have one pair of heeled boots or booties that you love to wear. Yes, make sure they are comfortable and not too high of a heel. Good boots are an investment so wear them around in the house more than one day making sure that they are a fit for you.

The styles that I love to wear in the fall are a sock bootie like the pair above and a Chelsea boot. Remember to always look for an almond toe shape or a pointy toe so that you elongate your legs and feet.
