Today is Go Red For Women Day

Today is Go Red for Women Day and I am sure that I am not the first person to inform you of this. The American Heart Association does such a great job of making all of us aware how important heart health is. Their official Go Red for Women website is full of information and little differences that can make an impact in the health of your heart. https://www.goredforwomen.org/

My heart health has been on my radar for several years. High blood pressure and heart disease are rampant in my family history. Since we can’t control our family history what we can do is make an effort to offset its potential effects. For me, that includes several things.

  1. Eat healthy.
  2. Exercise regularly with weights and get my heartrate up on a regular basis.
  3. Make time regularly for yoga and meditation.
  4. Get a good night’s rest.

One of the topics under Healthy Living on the American Heart Association’s website is “Healthy Eating Starts at Home”.  Due to the fact that I have many food  sensitivities/intolerances and am concerned about healthy living, I couldn’t agree more.  I thought that I would share some of my favorite heart healthy meals and snacks with you this month on Fridays.

The recipes that I share with you this month will be simple and tasty.  I thought we would kick of the month with a breakfast/snack recipe from the Go Red for Women website.  Everyone needs to eat more cruciferous veggies so what better way than to drink a few in the morning in this delicious Tropical Green Smoothie.  When I saw this recipe I knew that I had to try it and it didn’t disappoint.  The only thing missing in this recipe for me was some protein so I added some of my favorite vegan Vanilla protein powder.  This addition made it a complete meal of lean protein, healthy fats, and good for me carbs.
