Spring 2023 Fashion Trends: Things A Short Girl Should Try

When you are petite there are certain fashion rules that we have to be more aware of. We have to be more mindful of how our pants fit, the lengths of our skirts and dresses, and how much “fabric” we are wearing. A little too long or too heavy of fabrics and clothes can make us look even shorter and bigger than we are. So each season as new trends emerges it’s always good to evaluate how we can wear the current trends. We always want to make sure they look good on our petite frames. Spring 2023 trends are here so let’s see what we will consider adding to the closet and what we will pass on this year.
I am 5’1/2″ and have been for many years. Another thing with trends that I always factor in is that I am now in midlife. What looks good on young, tall women isn’t necessarily a good thing for me and my body type. No matter your age and body type, once you know what looks good on your body and you feel comfortable, then you always look good because you feel good in your clothes. So no matter your age when reading this just know that confidence in your clothing choices is key.
Before we dive in to Spring 2023 there are some other petite posts of mine that you might want to check out. Not only do I like to talk about petite clothing, but shoes that look great on petite frames. Gotta make sure we look good from head to toe.

Colors You Will Be Seeing This Season
The Panteone color of the year is Viva Magenta. Yes, this shade which is part of the red family promotes a joyous and optomistic celebration. Other colors that you will also be seeing this season are shades of pink and green.

I always find a color chart like this to be helpful. Now it is easy to look into your closet and see what colors might be hiding in there from seasons past. It is also a great way to look at how to pair colors of the season together.
I must admit that the colors I am most excited to see and wear this spring are the classic green which is such a spring green and the peach pink. I am all about corals and peachy colors. Yes, I have even written about the best coral lipsticks for fair skin. A must for your makeup drawer this spring and summer. You can find your perfect shade by clicking here.

Ballet Flats
Who doesn’t love a pretty ballet flat. You can find them in so many colors and variations. Always so comfortable and chic. They can easily be paired with pants, skirts, or dresses.
Metallics
When you see the word metallics, silver and gold immediately come to mind. Yes, you will see those two hues this spring. However, you will also see other colors of the season in all sorts of sparkly ways.
When it comes to metallics and petites a little can go a long way. You may just opt for a great top and keep everything else rather neutral. Don’t feel comfortable in metallics, then just find a small handbag that will be your pop of metallic color for the season. Other options are a cute pair of neutral metallic shoes or a belt. Have fun with this trend.
Blazers
Blazers aren’t new to our wardrobes. We have seen them in the trends for the last couple of years. This year you are seeing oversized. On the runways, you will see them paired with a bra top or crop top.
You just need to wear them how you feel comfortable. I would suggest that the top underneath an oversized blazer be fitted. Otherwise, it would be just too much fabric. Don’t like the way your petite body looks in a roomy cut blazer, then stick with a fitted blazer.
The other thing about blazers in 2023 is that you will see them in bold colors and a wider range of prints.
Sheer Fabrics
Yes, we have been seeing the sheer fabrics for a few years now. This season you will find in in all sorts of garments. From tops to skirts and dresses, you will find sheer fabrics.
Sheer fabrics do have a place in our wardrobes. You just don’t have to bare it all. Think of a sheer skirt with a short solid slip underneath. You can find blouses that just the sleeves are sheer. Another option is to wear something solid underneath a sheer top or wear a sheet top under a blazer. You have to wear this one within your comfort zone.
Spring 2023 Trends I’m Not So Sure About
Ok, trends are just that. Trends. Doesn’t mean that we have to embrace all of them. As a petite here are a few that I am on the fence about this season.
Bubble Hems
Ok, this hemline is just as you would think. It’s a bubble. The length of the skirt is usually mid-thigh. This hemline dates back to the 1950s when Christian Dior and Pierre Cardin designed their versions of this silhouette. We saw it reemerge in the 1980s.
I think that it depends upon your body type and if you think you look good in this type of skirt. I think the volume of fabric and how much poof there is to the bubble will make a difference as well.
Baggy Jeans
Ok, we have been talking about retiring the skinny jeans for a while now. I for one kind of like the extra room with the straight-leg jeans and am starting to embrace the flares. I also like the wide-leg cropped options on petite frames with heels. Now we are seeing baggy jeans for Spring 2023. Not so sure about the oversized pant on a petite frame.
For me, I am going to pass on this one. I like the simple lines on the bottom. Extra fabric tends to pull me down and I feel sloppy. I’ll let the tall, thin girls have this one.
