Midweek Meander #14: Winning the Humidity Battle

Winning the humidity battle in the south is a feat unto itself.  The “dog days of summer” are officially here this week.  If you are not familiar with this little phrase here’s a cute story about it’s history from the Farmer’s Almanac.  We all struggle to keep ourselves looking fresh and cool this time of year so this week I thought I would share a few things that are helping me to beat the heat and humidity.

When it comes to winning the humidity battle with my hair I have a few things that I use and do on a regular basis.  I have fine, straight hair that I like to wear curly and that doesn’t happen effortlessly.  We all want what we don’t have, don’t we.

Hair Products for Winning the Humidity Battle

My hairdresser from the last 10 years (she just retired) had fine curly hair so we were always comparing product wins and losses.  She was  a big fan of Amika products and used many of their products on different types of hair.  I asked her about the Anti-Humidity Shield this spring and she wasn’t familiar with it.  So, I decided to reach out to the company via online chat.  They asked me questions about my hair type and suggested that I  try the Plus Size Volume and Body Mousse.  The Anti-Humidity shield helps with frizz, not the deflating issue I have.  Needless to say, the new mouse is working beautifully.  I couldn’t believe how long my loose curls stayed looking perfect the first time I used it.  I will say that I also use their Perk Up Talc-Free Dry Shampoo and Headstrong Intense Hold Hairspray.  It is a beautiful combination of products if you have fine straight hair like me. There’s no way the humidity is going to get the best of me this year.

Hair Accessories for Winning the Humidity Battle

It’s no secret that I love accessories.  Accessories of any kind for that matter.  The last few years Joahnna (my hairdresser) and I have made sure that by the time summer rolls around my hair is a nice length to wear headbands and other hair accessories.  There are so many cute ones out there.  Whether you like barrettes, headbands, or cute pony tail holders there is something for everyone and their personal style.  A couple of my favorite places to shop for them are Anthropologie and FreePeople.  Etsy is also another great resource.

I would encourage you to play around with some.  You just might fall in love with wearing them.  And by the way, if you are like me and end up acquiring several headbands this is the BEST storage solution for them.  All of my barrettes are tucked inside of my headbands.

At the bottom of this post you will be able to click on the photos to see hair products, some cute hair accessories that are on my radar screen, and storage solutions.  If you do make a purchase thru the link I may receive a VERY small commission and I thank you for that.  All of the teal underlined links in the test will also take you to the exact products.  It costs you nothing to shop this way.

Water Consumption Without the Sweat Rings

Those of you who know me well know that I drink a LOT of water.  Like close to a gallon a day.  I also only drink out of stainless steel or glass.  Glass is my preference for at home and stainless steel is for on the go and the gym.   I was on the prowl for a great glass option that had a lid on it and some sort of sleeve so that I didn’t have to worry about water rings.  Of course, I found the perfect answer on Amazon.  This 20 oz. glass tumbler checked all of the boxes and I am able to put all of it in the dishwasher which is another added extra bonus.  It comes in a bazillion color options too.  In case you missed it, I found a great water filter pitcher that I have been using since we moved.  You can read about it here.

Thanks for taking the time to read my meandering thoughts and opinions today.  Let me know if you found any of these products helpful.  I do love to hear from you in the comments below.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week and remember to always have a little SASs in your day.

Hugs,

    1. I’m not going to let the humidity beat me this year. Hope you find some products that help you with the battle too.

  2. I hate the humidity too – it’s bad for my hair (but great feom my skin lol!). We’ve been going through a serious humidity peak here as well. I am a true believer in dry shampoo and have also used Amica – my hairdresser’s favourite too. Have a great rest of the week xx

    1. Amika products are great. I didn’t realize that you would have so much humidity to deal with in Montreal. I always think of it as such a cold place.
