How To Design Your Sunday Reset Routine For A Positive Week
I love a good Sunday reset. It just makes me feel so much better about starting a new week. Growing up or even in my 20s or 30s we didn’t hear this term and why it is something that we should have as part of our lives. In recent years the terms “Sunday scaries” and Sunday reset” have become increasingly popular. Have they been a part of our lives all along and we have just pushed them aside? Or is this something new because we now have so many more things in our daily lives due to technology?
All I know is that once I figured out why I didn’t rest as well on Sunday nights and why some Mondays were just dreadful my Sunday reset routine organically became a part of my life. Did I always call it that? No, but now I do. Not every Sunday reset is the same for me. However, I have nailed what it takes to make my weeks start on a positive note. So I thought I would share some of the things I prioritize on Sundays.

How To Design Your Sunday Reset Routine For A Positive Week
What Is A Sunday Reset Routine
In a nutshell, a Sunday reset is dedicating part of your Sunday to intentionally plan, organize, clean, and prepare for the week ahead. So this may be different from Sunday to Sunday. It depends upon how much time you can set aside and what needs a little TLC in your life. One thing I do know is this. Having a game plan on Sunday reduces stress for Monday and beyond in the new week.
Once you have figured out the basic things to do on a Sunday that bring a sense of calm and accomplishment for the week ahead you can adjust each week for the things that you need to prioritize. I know if you are like me no two weeks are exactly alike. The one thing that is pretty much constant is that all weeks are full of things that need to get done.
So let’s look at some of the things you can prioritize on Sunday so that your weeks start with better focus/productivity, a sense of control, and better sleep quality. Won’t it be great to have less stress and anxiety in your life when the alarm goes off Monday through Friday because of your Sunday priorities?

How To Do A Sunday Reset
If you are like me and a creature of habit, some of these things you naturally do week in and week out. Some of the things you enjoy doing and others are on the dreaded task list. Those dreaded tasks are the ones that feel so good to cross off the list if you ask me. Do you agree?
I think it’s important that we look at the components of a weekly reset routine. Let’s face it. We have certain things that need attention no matter what. Sometimes we are just not able to get to everything during the week. So let’s look at the categories you may want to prioritize for your best reset.
Sunday Reset Categories
- Cleaning. This could be doing a good deep clean of a room, vacuuming, or just tidying up around the house.
- Decluttering. Now this could be your personal inbox, text messages, or the mail (if you still get any of that). It could also be your personal work space if you are a work from home person. Nothing like a clean desk for Monday morning.
- Meal prepping. This could be planning the menu for the week ahead, actually making food to eat during the week, and grocery shopping.
- Planning your schedule. Take a look at what you have personally and professionally on your calendar for the week. Did you overschedule yourself? Did you put some “me time” in your calendar? Hello, you can schedule workouts and self-care appointments just like you schedule any other meeting.
- Self-care activities. Who doesn’t love a little “me time”? Every Sunday you should schedule some of this for yourself. It could be time to journal, meditate, read, or a walk outside. Whatever makes you a better you. It could also be taking the time to use your favorite moisturizing mask and a little tub time.
What I Include In My Sunday Reset Routine
- Time for meditation. I love the Sunday daily feature on the Headspace app. It always reminds me to take time to relax and enjoy my Sunday so that I am prepared for the week ahead.
- Sit down and savor a good cup of tea. This usually included watching my favorite Sunday morning news show.
- Review the week ahead. I like to look at my personal and work schedule. What days are going to be more booked than others? That tells me how I need to plan dinners. I also plan my workouts for Monday through Saturday.
- Food. This is a biggie. I usually make a quick grocery run on Fridays so I can prep certain breakfast and lunch items on Sunday afternoon. I also plan out what we will have for dinner during the week so I can do my big grocery run for the week.
- Me time. This is a must for me. I love to use a great face mask so that my skin starts the week with a glow. I also love to take a bath in epsom/dead sea salts. You can read the details about my nighttime wind-down routine I swear by for a great night of relaxation and sleep.
Sunday Reset Routine Checklist
Now that you know what my typical Sunday reset looks like here’s a checklist you can print out. I have left room so that you can write a task or two in each category.
