Polka Dots and Summertime

Polka dots and summertime just seem to go together like ice cream and summertime. When we think back there are several women who have helped make polka dots famous. Marilyn Monroe in her famous 1950s photos in a polka dot bikini, Minnie Mouse in her beautiful red costume, Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman in her famous brown polka dot dress. The list goes on.
To say that polka dot garments can stand the test of time is an understatement. You see them as various types of skirts, dresses or blouses year after year. Accessories easily update these classic garments. Today I am pulling out a favorite blue polka dot skirt that I have had for several years. This classic pencil skirt is made of cotton sateen and trimmed in grosgrain ribbon at the waist. The ribbon adds a little extra personality in my opinion. The grosgrain ribbon was the roadmap for the rest of the ensemble. A white cotton blouse and a pair of red patent leather slingback kitten heels.
The kitten heel was introduced around the same time Marilyn Monroe was photographed in her polka dot bikini. Audrey Hepburn is responsible for making them so popular in the 1960s. She wore them for her role in Sabrina. Even though kitten heels have come in and out of fashion over the years, many of the famous shoe designers continue to promote them.
Here is a classic polka dot skirt that would be great to add to your wardrobe. I also love this one and this one. If you haven’t added any kitten heels into your wardrode, I would encourage you to think about it. They are a great addition. I really like this one and this one.
Wishing you a wonderful week. Happy Monday.
