Spring 2024 Fashion Trends: What A Short Girl Should Embrace

It’s hard to believe that the first day of spring is just around the corner. It’s so nice to see the daffodils and other things blossoming here in the south. That means it is time to start transitioning our closets and what we wear to spring. Spring 2024 fashion trends are everywhere right now so it’s time to dive into the new season.

Every season I like to make myself aware of the trends so that I don’t look dated. However, I just keep in mind that they are trends. Some I like, some I don’t like. Some look good on petites and some just don’t work for our body types. What is most important is that “you do you” when it comes to dressing. Take note of what is trending, try some things on, and add what feels good to you.

On SASforShort I love to talk about all sorts of things that relate to being petite and always looking our best. Here are a few other posts I have written that you might want to check out.

Spring 2024 Fashion Trends: What Works For Petites

Being petite (I’m 5′ 1/2″) can make many trends quite tricky.  The other thing that I always factor in is that I am now midlife. What looks good on young, tall women isn’t necessarily a good thing for me and my body type.  No matter your age and body type, once you know what looks good on your body and feel comfortable, you always look good. Because when you feel good in your clothes it shows through in everything that you do that day.

So as we look at the Spring 2024 fashion trends you will always want to recognize the scale of a print or pattern, the length of garments, how they fit the body, and the cut of the garment. It’s not always easy to try new things. Trust me, it takes me a while to try new things to add to my wardrobe. I have always gravitated to classic, fitted pieces. However, if you don’t try new things you might miss out on something really good for you and comfortable. So let’s see what’s out there in the Spring 2024 fashion trends that you should try and embrace.

Colors You Will Be Seeing This Season

The Pantone color of the year is Peach Fuzz. Since I live in the Peach State, Georgia, I am a true fan of all things peach. This shade of peach is a shade that is between pink and orange. To be honest, I love lipstick in this shade. It is what I reach for all summer long, not too pink and not too orange.

This is a color that you will be seeing all year long. So how do you wear it? I always find a color chart like the one below to be helpful. Now it is easy to look into your closet and see what colors might be hiding in there from seasons past. It is also a great way to look at how to pair the colors of the season together.

I must admit that the colors I am most excited to see and wear this spring are peach fuzz, orangade, marlin, and lemon drop. They all pair beautifully with neutrals and your favorite white jeans or jeans.

I am truly a fan of all shades of peach and coral. I have even written about the best coral lipsticks for fair skin. A must for your makeup drawer this spring and summer. Whether you are incorporating Peach Fuzz into your wardrobe in small or large amounts you will want to have a shade of coral lipstick. You can find your perfect shade here.

Now let’s see what Spring 2024 fashion trends we are going to be seeing.

Stripes for spring? Earthshattering, right? Some of us, especially petites, always love our vertical stripes. Stripes have been having a moment for a while now and are still strong for this spring and summer.

Vertical stripes are a petite woman’s BFF. Horizontal stripes can work, but we have to be a little more cautious with them. I have found that if the stripe is thin, it works better for me.

Blue and white stripes are what our mind naturally zones in on for spring. There are plenty of blue and white stripes out there, but you are also seeing a lot of pink. Here are some stripes that caught my eye for spring.

White Dresses

I was so glad to see this pop up when I was doing my internet searches for this post. White dresses are something that this southern woman loves to wear. A warm day and a white dress just go together in my book. You will find white dresses in every style this season. One that I am going to be adding to my cart is this sporty dress. Perfect with sneakers. I have the long-sleeved version in ecru (you can see it on me here).

Yes, you will find dressy dresses, day dresses, and casual dresses in white this season. Another good option is always a white eyelet dress. Those are always chic for summer. If you feel that you don’t look good in white, then add an ecru or off-white dress to your collection this year. Either color will pair beautifully with metallics which are also trending this season.

Relaxed High Rise Trousers

High rise trousers are another piece of clothing that looks great on petites. It helps make our legs look longer, even if paired with a kitten heel or a platform sneaker. This season the fit is more relaxed.

This style of trouser comes in all the colors. You will find them more often in wardrobe essential colors such as black, navy, cream/white, tan. You can wear them with heels, kitten heels, sandals, or sneakers. Whatever shoe style you love to wear.

I have tried a few pairs of pants in this style for the season and this pair has won me over. I now have it in blue and cream. If you follow me on the blog or on social media, you will be seeing a lot of these pants for the next several months. They are so easy to style. You can see the navy on me here.

Metallics are everywhere you look this spring, especially silver. It has been having a moment for a while now and that is continuing into spring and summer. The easiest way to add this trend to your wardrobe is shoes and handbags.

For spring and summer, you want to make sure that your metallics are not blingy. You will find them in both shiny and matte finishes. If you don’t like too much bling, then I would suggest sticking with a matte finish. I love the finish on this heeled sandal or this crinkled silver sandal. Either of these would be easy to wear and not too flashy of a metallic. You can use code BETH15 for 15% off of any shoes on that website.

Another great way to ease into metallic shoes is with a cap toe like this white leather and silver cap toe. This is a style that you can wear with casual dresses and skirts, pants, or shorts. You can use code SAS10 for 10% off sitewide.

Kitten Heels & Slingbacks

Two classic, yet trending styles of shoes that look great on petites. Kitten heels and slingbacks. The silhouette of a slingback helps to elongate our feet. A kitten heel is a great alternative to a flat for petites. It gives us just a little extra height. So many times this shoe style is made in a pointy-toe silhouette which is also another option that elongates our feet.

This kitten heel sandal is one of my most worn shoes in the spring and summer. They go with EVERYTHING in your closet.

Wide Leg Denim

Yes, it’s not just trousers. Wide leg denim is everywhere that you look these days. Some will have simple straight hems. Others will have big cuffs and exaggerated hems.

Wide leg pants of any sort are a favorite of mine and petites can carry them. You just have to keep a few things in mind. You can read my tips for rocking wide leg pants and jeans. For petites, I think that sticking with a simple hem is best. The big cuffs that you see on many of them will cut our legs off and keep us from looking taller and leaner.

Don’t worry. Straight leg, flares, and kick crops are still around and going strong. If you don’t feel comfortable in wide leg denim that’s OK. It is just an option.

Darker Denim and Ecru

Denim is such an important piece in our wardrobes. There are always so many options out there when it comes to rinses and styles. Light, medium, and dark. I like to have all three in my closet. What you pair with each is different.

Spring 2024 fashion trends are showing lots of dark denim. Not sure why for spring, but let’s lean into it. I tend to pull my dark rinse out more in the fall and winter. If you have some dark rinse jeans, pull them out and start looking at them with your favorite spring tops. You might surprise yourself with a new combination for fall.

The other color that is trending this season is ecru or off-white. You will find them in all of the different styles. Remember that this color is also a great transition color from summer to fall. If you don’t like a pure white jean for one reason or another, then try a pair of ecru this season. You might be surprised by how often you reach for them.

  1. I love that you give us ideas about fashion for petites. However, what you show may not be affordable for everyone or we just don’t want to have to be fad shoppers. As a petite, I find that the department stores I visit(I often don’t buy!) Only have old fart clothing. I may be 72 but I want trendy clothes. I don’t want housedresses! Many of my friends are in the same boat. That is why I shop and don’t buy.

Why don’t stores recognize that we don’t want to dress like our moms!

    1. Hi Rose, I understands what you are saying. So many petite clothes are frumpy. I try to have a mix of pricepoints for my readers and I do my best to highlight when there are good sales in my newsletters. We all love to find a good deal on something that we love.
