Petite Friendly Fashion Trends for Summer 2022

Petite Friendly Fashion Trends for Summer 2022
The first day of Summer 2022 is not far away. This year it is on June 21st. However, I always think of Memorial Day as the kick off to summer and summer dressing. Easy, breezey low maintenance dressing is what comes to mind when I think of summer. Here in Atlanta it gets quite hot and humid so I am always trying to stay cool.
Even if you prefer classic styles, adding in a few of the season’s trends keeps you looking fresh and up to date. Once I see what’s out there for the season, I always take a walk through my closet to remind myself of what is in there. After that I decide if there is something that I need to add so that I look age appropriate and yet youthful and hip.
Being petite (I’m 5′ 1/2″) can make many trends quite tricky. The other thing that I always factor in is that I am now midlife and what looks good on young, tall women isn’t necessarily a good thing for me and my body type. No matter your age and body type, once you know what looks good on your body and you feel comfortable in, then you always look good because you feel good in your clothes.
So today I’m going to touch on some of the summer 2022 fashion trends and how they can work on a petite body. I’m also going to highlight some of the trends that this body/body type will not be jumping up and down about this year and why.

Summer Trends That I’m Ready to Make A Splash With
Pleated Skirts
Pleated skirts are just so fun to wear. They are easy and not clingy. You just want to let the wind catch them and do a little twirl. Remember doing that as a little girl? They can be short or long and a very versatile piece to have in the closet.
You can easily dress a pleated skirt up or down. You can pair the skirt with a beautiful blouse, a great button-down or even your favorite graphic tee. So I encourage you to add one to cart if you don’t have one in the closet. You’ll pull it out more often than you think.
Airy Dresses
The last couple of years we have all become so used to dressing in comfortable clothing. Now that we are all out and about and being social again an airy, breezy dress is the answer to summer comfort dressing. These dresses are usually statement makers so few accessories are needed when wearing them. Have fun and enjoy the bold colors.
Trousers
I have always loved a good trouser. Something about a tailored pant that just elevates my day. Set your jeans aside this summer and try out a pair. Pair the traditional masculine lines of a trouser with a floral or print blouse to make it a totally feminine look. This season they come in al lengths and leg widths. Choose one that suits your fancy.
Halter Tops
Baring our shoulders just says that it’s summertime. I’ve always loved baring my shoulder. You just have to make sure you have a comfortable bra to go with the top. If you are a busty petite, you will want to check out this post that I did on the best bras for us.
The other great thing about wearing a halter top is that they tend to draw the eye upward which creates a balancing act and adds an illusion of height. What petite doesn’t like that.
Crop Tops
Crop tops are everywhere this season. They have been around for a while, but this summer you are seeing lots of them. First of all you have to determine if you are comfortable showing your midsection. Some of us are, some of us aren’t. The good thing about many crop tops is that they are a good length for petites with high waisted bottoms. We don’t have all of that extra fabric to tuck into our shorts, pants, or skirts. Keep that in mind when you see the word “cropped” this season. It might be worth a try.
Summer 2022 Trends That I’m Iffy About
Fringe
Fringe is a trend that would work for the members of the short girls club if it is in moderation. If it is a trim on a hat or a handbag, the by all means go for it if you are a fringe kind of gal. Just make sure that it is not overwhelming on you.
Clashing Prints
Clashing prints can make a BOLD statement. Basically you are putting two different prints in the same color family together. Yes, this can make a great statement. Give it a whirl and see if it is for you. Some people love it and others don’t feel comfortable being so unmatchy. Just ask yourself this when you look in the mirror…..do others see me or the outfit first. If people see the outfit and you and second fiddle, then I would soften the clashing a bit. One always wants to outfit to enhance our looks and natural beauty, not overwhelm it.
Ultra Large Handbags
This is a trend that I am totally passing on this year. Scale and size are so important when choosing a handbag. Petite ladies typically look better carrying small or medium sized bags. Actually, if you want to follow this trend, then carry a medium sized or a smaller large bag and you will look the part.
Puff Sleeves
This one can be tricky for petites. I do love a puff sleeve. Actually in the picture above I am wearing a puff sleeve. They key here is how BIG is the puff. Some of them out there can be really big this season so make sure you spend some time looking in the mirror before deciding if the puff is right for you or not.
THANKS
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I appreciate you taking the time to read this post. Hope this helped you navigate and translate some of the summer 2022 trends that you are seeing. Let me know if there is a trend that you are really loving this season.
Remember to always have a little SASs in your day!
Hugs,

The text that is underlined and shows up in a different color is usually a link to another blog post that I have written, another site, or a product. The links to a product are affiliate links. What that means is that if you click on a link to a product and make a purchase, Sassy for Short (a.k.a Beth) gets a small commission at no extra cost to you. The same goes if you click on any of the pictures to get more information about a product. I really appreciate you supporting the brands that make it possible for me to keep this blog going!
I just bought about a dozen dresses as it’s finally warm enough in NY to wear them! Loved all of your other suggestions – I’m petite too and so many of the current styles just don’t work for my frame. Xo Nipa
Exactly, scale is everything when it comes to buying clothing for a small frame. Enjoy your dresses this season.

Beth
It’s amazing how the crop tops can be perfect for us petite women…they are basically the “right” length many times, haha.

Jodie
I know. That’s why it’s a good trend for those of us who are members of the short girl’s club. We have to take advantage of whatever we can because many designers forget about us.

Beth

That compliment means the world to me coming from you Lucy. Thanks you SOOOO much.
