How to Wear Statement Pieces

Statement pieces have always been a favorite to have in the closet. As you know, I love my classics. Within the classic pieces in my clothing repository there are several statement pieces. Over the next few weeks, I am going to talk about how I like to wear and style different statement pieces.
First of all, a statement piece is something that speaks to you. It can be a piece of jewelry, a blouse, a skirt, a dress. Basically what you fall in love with. One of the main reasons that I love having statement pieces is that the rest of my ensemble can be very simple and yet make an impact.
Honestly, most of my statement pieces have been in my repository for a while now. They are classic pieces that I just refresh with new things to give them an updated look each season. Today I am styling one of my very favorite skirts. This one is an oldie, but goodie from https://www.carlislecollection.com/. Since I sold the line for over 10 years I am rather partial to their designs. You can see me in some of their other classics here and here.
This skirt is actually made of silk matka. The details of the woven raffia and the imbedded clear sequins is what sets this apart to make it into a great statement piece. I like to pair it with something simple up top so that the skirt is the main focus. I chose a J. Crew silk top from the repository (similar here) to dress it up a bit more with some shine and a basic linen t-shirt from Banana Republic for a very casual look. Tretorn tennis shoes are my go-to. Love the fit and the colors. This platform sneaker is great with skirts and dresses.
