How to Wear A Pencil Skirt

The pencil skirt…..there are oh so many ways to wear a pencil skirt. The pencil skirt was first designed by Christian Dior in 1954. Thru the years the hemlines have gone up and down depending upon the current trends. However, one thing that remains the same from decade to decade is that it is a staple in a woman’s wardrobe.

A few things to keep in mind when you are buying a pencil skirt:

  1. It should be snug, but not too tight.
  2. Check that it has a vent so that walking and sitting are easier.
  3. A little stretch in the fabric makes it much more comfortable to wear.
  4. Consider a high waisted design like I am wearing.  It will elongate the line of the body.

The way that I chose to wear a pencil skirt today was a dressier, more traditional look. I donned a feminine floral blouse (similar)  and high heeled pumps. This high waisted version by Carlisle has been in my closet for some time now. I love it because it is made out of a wonderful double knit. Even though there is no slit it is still easy to walk in and sit comfortably. I just don’t take long steps.

Let’s talk about these classic navy blue suede pumps for a moment.  I have always been a classic pump gal.  A beautiful silhouette, with a classic shaped heel is hands down my favorite kind of shoe.  These are by Sarah Flint and are so comfortable.  The extra padding in the heel and the arch support make them so that you just don’t want to take them off.

This spring and early summer I plan to show you a few other ways that I like to style this particular pencil skirt.  Pencils skirts aren’t just for the workplace or dressier occasions.  They can be a fun weekend piece as well.
