How to Style a Fur Trimmed Vintage Coat

Today I am styling a fur trimmed vintage coat that I have had for quite some time. I own a few vintage pieces that are near and dear to my heart. Each time that I put one of them on I just feel special that day.
I like to wear vintage pieces for a few reasons. They add interest to any ensemble and they tend to spark a conversation with others. Also, you won’t see anyone else wearing the same thing.
Vintage pieces add interest just due to the fact that they are usually unique. The fabrics, trim, and buttons found on a vintage piece are just not what you see in today’s mass produced clothing. Behind every vintage piece there is usually a story. Whether you bought it from a shop, an estate sale, or it was inherited there is a story behind why you own such a unique piece of clothing.
For today’s post I styled my vintage coat with a column of chocolate brown, a pair of suede leopard pumps, and a simple gold bag. I have also styled this vintage coat with trousers and blue jeans.
Here is the story of my fur trimmed vintage coat……
I was shopping with a friend at a local store that specializes in consigning estates. My fashionista friend, who also loves antiques, knows the owner of the shop. We started chatting and she brought out a few pieces from an estate that she had just received. The minute we saw the coat, I had to try it on. It was a perfect fit and came out of the store with me.
I took it to a local furrier because there were a couple of stains on the fabric. He then confirmed that this had to be a piece that was made in Europe most likely in the ’50s or ‘60s. The clue was Russian squirrel was the fur of choice. Next stop was a cleaners in Atlanta where they specialize in hand cleaning all garments without the use of harsh chemicals. The owner of the cleaners gushed over the garment. She too confirmed that it was Russian squirrel and felt like it was European design from the ‘60s due to the cut of the coat, the style of the closures, and the fact that it was lined in silk.
Do you have any vintage pieces with a story?
