A Closet Staple – White Linen Shirt

A white linen shirt and deep purple irises as the backdrop, what a great combination. The irises in our backyard were just too beautiful not to share with everyone this season. We were getting ready to go out the other evening and the lighting was just right. We hopped out to the backyard and snapped some photos. The irises have been in place two years now and each year they get thicker and more dramatic. There are four identical areas like this around our pool. Once the blooms die, it is just three textures and variations of green for the summer. So happy to get rid of blooms around the pool in the summer. They attract way too many bumble bees for my liking.

I knew that I wanted to keep the OOTN very casual and neutral for the purples and greens, as well as, our destination. I pulled out a tried and true favorite for spring and summer – a white linen shirt. Can we every have too many white shirts, ladies? Don’t think so. This is a style that J.Jill makes over and over, just various colors from year to year. White is always included. Thus, we must include it as one of our closet staples.

For a more casual look, I chose to roll up the sleeves. Paired it with a pair of distressed slim boyfriend jeans from Madewell, a silver belt and a great pair of sparkly mules from Loeffler Randall. All of these items were “shopped from my closet”. The jeans and shoes were from last spring/summer and the Prada belt has been around for some time.

My motto is that is you can always find a great ensemble in your closet as long as you stick with styles that are “classics” and true to you.
