Why Wear Classy Linen Outfits In Summer
Classy linen outfits are cool and sophisticated. Some may have issues with the wrinkles associated with linen, but I will take cool and comfortable with a side of wrinkles on any sweltering day. If you have a hard time embracing the wrinkles that come with 100% linen you might want to look for linen blend fabrics.
Linen fabric is a natural fabric that has been around for forever. You can read an interesting history of the fabric here and how it dates back over 10,000 years. Linen is made from the flax seed plant, so buying 100% linen is truly a natural fabric. You will also find 100% linen to be a very durable fabric. So if you purchase well-made linen pieces you will have them for many summer seasons.
There are a few reasons that linen is the fabric of summer.
- It is hypoallergenic and naturally anti-microbial. Great for people with skin allergies.
- It is highly breathable – absorbs your sweat and dries quickly.
- It is a sustainable choice.

Linen Wardrobe Essentials For Classy Outfits
Every year I try to add a piece or two of linen to my summer closet. Most of the pieces I add are classic styles so even though I only wear them a few months out of the year I continue to pull them out season after season. I also recommend picking up a new shirt towards the end of the season when they are on sale.
So let’s look at some good basic linen pieces that you can transform into classy outfits you will wear this summer.
Tops
My most worn linen tops are my classic button-downs. I think that every woman should own a white linen button-down. You can expand your linen top collection from there. After that, I would go for a simple sleeveless linen top that you can pair with shorts or pants.
The other style of linen top that I would recommend having if you like to wear shorts or denim in the summer is a good linen tank or t-shirt. They can also be a nice layering piece to have.
Shorts
Linen shorts can be very casual or dressy. This season trouser shorts are so on trend and these linen trouser shorts are so good and a nice dressy option. Linen pull-on shorts are a great option for more casual shorts. This style is probably my favorite style of shorts to wear while I am working at my desk.
Pants
I will always say that casual linen pants are the way to go for women who don’t like to show their legs. A simple drawstring linen pant is the best option. Another option that you are seeing that gives off a cool casual vibe is the cargo pants.
Try mixing it up with your linen pants. If you need some that are more structured or dressy stick with black or navy. It is also easy to make them look more casual with a change of top and accessories. Fun colors for your more casual pants can spark joy. So go for it.
When it comes to white linen pants make sure you take the time to try them on in different lighting. Many times they can be see-through. That is not a good look for anyone.
Dresses
Linen summer dresses are always a breath of fresh air. You can always find a good classic shirt dress or maxi dress in linen. Short, midi, or long dresses will always be in style.
Tommy Bahama has the most classic of linen shift dresses. They make this style every year in different colors. It is so comfortable to wear. I like it for casual days when I am running errands. So nice to have the breathability when I am in and out of the car. I have also taken this same dress on vacation and worn it to dinner. Just a quick change of accessories. This is a classic dress that should be in every woman’s summer wardrobe in my opinion.
What to Pair With Linen
You don’t always have to wear linen from head to toe to stay cool. Other fabrics that pair beautifully with linen are cotton and silk. Both cotton and silk will also help to keep you cool since they are also natural fibers.
When it comes to accessories wicker or crochet bags and woven sandals pair beautifully with more casual linen pieces. If you are wearing more structured pieces you may want to add structured accessories that are more appropriate.
Classy Linen Outfits Inspiration
A classic little black dress that can take you from day to night. You could also throw a cropped jacket or sweater over it for a business casual look.

A great linen pant in a cool color that you can wear to the office. A slim tapered leg never goes out of style so if it looks good on you, then these pants would be a great addition to your linen collection. It would also be paired with navy or other shades or blue. Take a little inspiration from the handbag on the right.
