Benefits of Clean Beauty: Your Skin Will Love You
Beauty products. I think that we all get in a rut with our products. We have used the same things for years and feel good about our skin so why change, right? I know that I have been guilty of that to a certain extent until about a year ago. Everywhere I turned, I kept seeing more and more about clean beauty products. So I started reading and learning about the many benefits of clean beauty products.
The beauty of what I do is that I get to try things out and share them with you. So I thought I would share about my journey of switching over to clean beauty products. You can ready about my thoughts on switching to natural deodorant and using clean self tanners as well.
What Makes Something a Clean Beauty Product
A clean beauty product is something that is safe for people and the planet. The product is created without synthetic chemicals and ingredients that could harm your body or irritate your skin. Usually these products do not contain parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances.
Clean beauty brands are usually transparent about the types of ingredients that they do and do not use on their labels and in marketing materials. Many use plant based ingredients for results. This is still a segment of the beauty industry that is not truly defined. You just have to do some research and figure out what is important to you when purchasing items that you put on your skin. After all, our skin is our largest organ.
When Did It Become a Thing
Well, one of my favorite and most shopped stores actually led this trend. Whole Foods. They started expanding their stores and beauty aisles in the 1990s. Now they actually have quite the selection of products. Burt’s Bees was also a leader at the same time in clean products and now they are a household name and you can buy their products on your next Target run. 2010 is really when you started hearing more and more about clean beauty products and the availability was more widespread. Now you hear about it all of the time and many top retailers devote sections of their business to it.
Why Should I Use These Products
Ok, here is what made me think about the whole clean beauty products situation a while back. I worry about what I put in my body to fuel it and make it feel good. So why do I not think about the ingredients in my beauty and skin care products since they go on my skin which is my body’s largest organ. Here’s a list of the most common toxic chemicals that can be found in cosmetics that we should avoid.
As we age, our skin has more “special needs” as I like to say. There are more things such as fine lines and wrinkles that we like to address to keep looking our best. Why not make healthy choices about that just like we do with the things we put in our bodies.
Here are some of the benefits that you will get from choosing clean products.
- Reduced exposure to harmful ingredients so they help keep you healthy
- Fewer ingredients that can cause headaches (scents)
- Less chance of skin irritation or redness
- Natural ingredients show results
My Clean Beauty Product Journey
Do I have you wondering what all is in your bathroom drawers and cabinets now? Are you ready to start receiving the benefits of clean beauty products?
You don’t have to switch everything at once. I still use products that are not label “clean” and I many never have 100% clean products in my bathroom either. After all Rome wasn’t built in a day. My first switch was to clean deodorant and toothpaste. The next step was a clean facial cleanser, then I added in a moisturizer. Little by little as I run out of products that I have been using I try a new clean product instead of buying the same products that I had been using. Sometimes I like the new product, and sometimes I don’t. All of this is trial and error until you find what really works for your skin. So be patient with yourself if you decide to make the switch.
Top Retailers for Clean Beauty
There are several retailers that are known for their clean beauty product selection. As with anything, I read reviews. If you are looking for a product replacement, then take the time to look at some of these retailers and see the options that you have to choose from. You will be amazed at how many are out there. Trust me, they are available at all price points too.
As always, thanks for taking the time to stop by my little corner of the internet. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to read what’s on my mind. Today’s post was a little more thought provoking. Let me know if you have starting paying attention to the ingredients in your beauty and skin care products. Love to hear what other people are using and enjoying.
Remember to always have a little SASs in your day!
The text that is underlined and shows up in a different color is usually a link to another blog post that I have written, another site, or a product. The links to a product are affiliate links. What that means is that if you click on a link to a product and make a purchase, Sassy for Short (a.k.a Beth) gets a small commission at no extra cost to you. The same goes if you click on any of the pictures to get more information about a product. Also, some items may be gifted to me, but opinions about the products are always my own. I really appreciate you supporting the brands that make it possible for me to keep this blog going!
